1. Clunking Over Bumps
Likely cause: worn sway bar links, strut mounts, or control arm bushings. Check: strut mount bearing play, sway bar end links.
2. Squeaking When Turning
Likely cause: dry ball joints or strut top bearings. The strut bearing may need replacement if it feels notchy when turning.
3. Vehicle Pulls to One Side
Often from improper alignment, but also worn control arm bushings or collapsed strut mounts. Check bushing condition before aligning.
4. Excessive Body Roll
Worn sway bar bushings or end links. Replace both links and bushing set for best results.
5. Vibration at Highway Speeds
Could be wheel balance, but worn suspension components amplify vibration. Check ball joints and bushings for play.
6. Uneven Tire Wear
Worn control arm bushings or ball joints affect alignment. Inspect all suspension bushings and replace as needed.
7. Bottoming Out
Likely worn bump stops or defective struts. Always replace bump stops when installing new struts.
8. Steering Wheel Play
Check tie rod ends, rack bushings, and control arm bushings. Excessive play can indicate multiple worn components.
9. Nose Diving Under Braking
Worn struts or control arm bushings. The suspension geometry changes under load when bushings are worn.
10. Rear-End Sway
Trailing arm bushings or rear control arm bushings. Common on multi-link rear suspensions.
